Shared Missions

In 2004 Dr. Karen Atler, of the Colorado State University Occupational Therapy Department, approached Joanne Vande Walle, the executive director at Elderhaus, about partnering to allow students from the OT department to do their internships at Elderhaus. The program is called Shared Missions, and our goal is to enhance the well-being of all our participants at Elderhaus and Mindset. What started very small has grown over the years and we now have several students a year working with our staff and your loved ones.

Elderhaus employs an Occupational Therapist, Julie Silver Seidle, who works with our student interns as well as our program directors. She has been with Elderhaus for many years. Julie trains us in the safest ways to help all of our participants; you might see her demonstrating that the safest way to get out of a chair is not holding on to the walker, but leveraging the arms of the chair. Or you may hear from your loved ones about time that they have spent with Julie. If you have a particular concern that you believe an OT could help with, please contact Joanne. We are so pleased to have Julie on our staff and invite you to introduce yourself to her if you have not already met.

Our collaboration with CSU is going strong, and we are very fortunate to be involved with them: the CSU OT Department is one of the top 10 in the nation, something we all benefit from! These volunteers have CSU name tags, please feel free to introduce yourself and talk to them.
