In 2004 Dr. Karen Atler, of the Colorado State University Occupational Therapy Department, approached Joanne Vande Walle, the executive director at Elderhaus, about partnering to allow students from the OT department to do their internships at Elderhaus. The program is called Shared Missions, and our goal is to enhance the well-being of all our participants at Elderhaus and Mindset. What started very small has grown over the years and we now have several students a year working with our staff and your loved ones.

Elderhaus engaged an Occupational Therapist, Julie Silver Seidle, to establish the program, working with our student interns as well as our program directors. She was with Elderhaus for many years.  Julie trained us in the safest ways to help all of our participants.  As Julie returned to school to further her education, Elderhaus hired Kyley Jones, who you might now see demonstrating the safest way to get out of a chair by not holding on to the walker, but leveraging the arms of the chair. Or you may hear from your loved ones about time that they have spent with Julie or Kyley. If you have a particular concern that you believe an OT could help with, please contact Tim.

Our collaboration with CSU is going strong, and we are very fortunate to be involved with them: the CSU OT Department is one of the top 10 in the nation, something we all benefit from! These volunteers have CSU name tags, please feel free to introduce yourself and talk to them.
